Anger
Management
Wouldn’t it be nice to learn
how to deal with anger in a positive way, rather than holding it in and/or
exploding when we become overwhelmed? Learning to assertively express anger and
annoyance in a timely fashion is the most effective way to manage anger. Courses
in assertiveness training, and/or group psychotherapy, can be very effective in
helping you to manage anger.
There are, of course, many
situations where assertiveness will not be effective, or may even be
inappropriate. For example, if the
person you’re trying to communicate with is not interested in how you feel or
think, you’re stuck with the anger. Or,
the target of your anger is distant- whether it be rising prices, layoffs,
government policies, or assaults on the environment. Again, you feel the anger, and yet there’s nothing
you can do to rectify the situation. A
good example of such a situation is road rage.
Cognitive-behavioral therapy can help you
to learn how to let go of such anger, laugh it off, and continue on your way. Life is too short to spend it all tensed up, and tension, as
well as anger, can make life even shorter.
Is it worth it to live in such a high-pitched state?
